Cybersecurity and Risk Management

 Cybersecurity

Tomorrow's security leaders must effectively communicate with the Board. Understanding culture, history, and leadership intent are essential, and communication expertise is paramount. We have helped companies and agencies scale-up, merge, and integrate stove-piped programs and evolve into more powerful operations.

Example: Building a New Cybersecurity Operation. The essence of successfully operating within a complex organization is to (1) communicate well; and (2) demonstrate impact. Businesses need experts who can form the “glue” to tie teams together who may not have worked together or understand previous operations. We managed a growing field operation and integrated cyber and physical security lines of effort into one, cohesive team. We know management consulting operations and can apply this business model to help companies manage change.

Enterprise Risk Management and
Business Continuity

Organizations must be able to identify risks and prioritize those risks in order to protect operations and promote resilience. We are experienced discussion facilitators, helping organizations develop a risk model based on factors such as threat likelihood and impact. We can guide conversations to not only identify, analyze, and prioritize risks, but we can also facilitate dialogue with leaders on how to manage and decrease those risks - to include developing plans and follow-up discussions.

Example: Annual Risk Management Process. As part of a business operation, we helped a large, multi-component governmental agency by setting up a framework for risk discussions. We developed messages for leadership, to the components, on the value of enterprise risk management and guided meetings with with individual components as part of an annual process. We took the service one step further by identifying patterns, across the agency, and briefing them to top leadership for awareness and mitigation. At the time, the agency was suffering from erosion of public trust, many personnel nearing retirement, funding swings, and internal communication problems.

Disaster Recovery

Example: County Service Scale-Up. One of the largest counties in the United States received over $400 million in CARES Act funds to address the growing COVID-19 pandemic. We created an organizational structure, facilitated productive discussions among city council members, and enabled the county to prioritize the expenditure of funds. Initiatives included the development of a rental assistance program and guidance on reputable, local non-profit and charitable organizations to help scale-up the effort.

Change Management

Example: Public-Sector Programs Undergoing Change. Our people have experience in guiding programs that are rapidly expanding - or contracting. The public sector is defined by mission. Our people have led geographically-dispersed staff, in multiple states, working distinct lines of effort. Resource management, communication, and change management are areas where our expertise shines. We know how to successfully promote change, even across change-resistant stove pipes.
